Edison was born on the same day as American inventor Thomas Edison. In the latter's honour, his parents and godmother came up with a middle name alluding to his legacy, consisting of: his middle name, Alva; his home in New Jersey, Menlo (Park); and (Fort) Lee, birthplace of the U.S. film industry, where he set up the "Black Maria" studio. Edison's "Yellow Bulb" nickname is a double entendre privately given by his wife in reference to the colour of his genitals.
