Notes
  • Named after the castle in Helsingør, Denmark immortalised in Shakespeare's Hamlet and otherwise known today as Kronberg. By the time she was about to give birth, her mother Hersilia happened to come across a tattered English copy of that play on her neighbour's bookshelf. This in turn inspired Elsinore to take up stage acting in downtown Pointe-à-Pitre when she grew up, a career that lasted well into the 1890s.
  • The seventh and last of Hersilia's daughters, she would herself have seven of her own, thus leading to Devondra's news-making boast. (Starting in 1845, all of them dated and made out with brothers from the Belcourt family of Pointe-á-Pitre, leading to successful marriages that led to 29 children among the couples combined.)
