Of Abenaki ancestry. Named after the 19th-century American West legend (alias Liver-Eating Johnson) immortalised in Sydney Pollack's 1972 film. Jeremiah's family moved to Toronto when he was seven. In late 1979, Bernadette and Jeremiah came to Dominica to assist in the Hurricane David cleanup/relief efforts, and decided to stay the rest of their lives there after getting a hefty pension for their work and later raising Edison.
