Morphemes (or voabesimes in Tovasala) are the smallest units with meaning in a language; the study of morphemes is called morphology (voabestanule). As with English, Tovasala morphemes are classified as either roots or affix morphemes.

Save for the word-class termisons, morphemes in Tovasala end with one of 19 consonants (C) as detailed in the Grammar. Standard roots cannot end with a vowel (reserved for the termisons), nor with s (reserved as the plural marker). Double consonants are not allowed in base forms, à la Lojban's gismu, but are acceptable in compounds.

Examples of valid morphemes:

  • v (go)
  • ad (at, to)
  • id (state/condition/quality)
  • iz (turn [into])
  • biv (be/exist)
  • suj (be identified as)
  • lum (3rd person [3] – he/she/it/they)
  • obr (give)
  • ineald (machine)
  • rel- (again/re-)
  • ver- (in reverse/un-)
  • -e (neuter termison for nouns [n])
  • -iēn (someone who...)
  • -isat (3rd-person plural indicative [3pl.ind] – are)
  • addez (tell — literally "say to someone" [ad + dez])

Forms such as assis (double consonants; end marker of s) and no (vowel end marker) are illegal in Tovasala.

All morpheme pages make use of their eponymous table, and are also served by the companion form. It is recommended to create new morpheme pages from the links given under entries' "Morphemes" sidebar rows; if you would still like to add one inversely, use the input bar below. Before doing so, please review the morpheme lexicon, and read the formulation and formation rules in the grammar.
